Roman S. Bembenek, of Manitowoc, passed away unexpectedly on December 27, 2021. He was 96 years old.
Roman was born in Stevens Point on December 31, 1924. He grew up on a farm located on Highway J in Portage County. After attending Sacred Heart Catholic School in Polonia through the eighth grade, Roman continued farming with his parents and siblings. He and Margaret Kontney were wed on September 17, 1955, and moved to Manitowoc with their young son, Alan, in 1957. Roman was employed by the Manitowoc Company for nearly thirty years. His interests included fishing on inland lakes, especially Carstens Lake; woodworking; gardening; automobile and small engine maintenance; and his strong Catholic faith. In his later years, he enjoyed reminiscing about the old days on the farm, displaying an amazing memory of times gone by.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dominic and Laura (Czerwonka); four brothers (Leonard, Chester, Florian, and Donald); three sisters (Helen Check, Bertha Milanowski, and Betty Knippel); and son Michael, who succumbed to ALS in 2019.
