Wisconsin Emergency Management is explaining their role in helping during an emergency a nuclear power plant. In a news release, they stated that each year, the State of Wisconsin and county agencies participate in emergency planning and exercises with three operating nuclear plants in or bordering the state, including Point Beach Nuclear Plant in Manitowoc County.
During an incident at a nuclear power plant, the media will be notified as soon as possible. It is anticipated that a Joint Information Center (JIC) will open near the plant. The JIC will be staffed by representatives from federal, state, and local governments as well as the utility.
It is critical that during a nuclear power plant incident, the media would disseminate vital information on evacuations, sheltering in place, food safety and re-entry procedures.
