Knocking off the number-one team in the nation opens the door for the Wisconsin volleyball team to play for the national title Saturday.
The Badgers won a hard-fought match Thursday night 3-2 over the previously undefeated Louisville Cardinals.
Freshman Anna Smrek led the offense, scoring the first Badger point and finishing the fifth and deciding set with a kill.
She had a career-high 20 kills.
Sydney Hilley produced her third straight double-double with 58 assists and 11 digs, while Lauren Barnes had 19 saves and Dana Rettke led Wisconsin with six blocks.
It’s an All-Big Ten final, with the Badgers pitted against Nebraska for the N-C-A-A Championship.
Wisconsin swept the Cornhuskers in Lincoln in late October, then beat them 3-1 at the U-W Fieldhouse last month.
