Eastern Wisconsin’s representative in the U.S. Congress is continuing to voice his frustrations with our withdrawal from Afghanistan.
6th District Congressman Glen Grothman, who is also the ranking member of the Subcommittee on National Security, was recently on the WCUB Breakfast Club, where he said our withdrawal was not handled well.
“I think when we left that second airport…it kind of opened things up for the Chinese perhaps or the Russians perhaps, to move in there,” the Congressman said. “Obviously we lost so much equipment, that is going to be turned over to the Russians, who are going to be looking at it, learning from it, and maybe using some of that equipment.”
As for the people left in the country, things are not going well for some of them.
“I continue to hear anecdotal evidence of people who helped us that are being killed over there,” he said.
Grothman went on to say, from a strategic standpoint, “I think it would have been a good job to hang on to that airport.”
Grothman did say that he believes the mainstream media is blowing out of proportion the number of American citizens that remain in Afghanistan that wish to return home.
While speaking during a recent hearing regarding terrorist organizations, Grothman questioned why there was never a hearing regarding the, in his words, “botched withdrawal”, and called on President Joe Biden to share his plans moving forward with the Country.
