The City of Green Bay has approved the use of $1 million to help battle the gun violence crisis.
The City’s Finance Committee approved the spending during their meeting Tuesday evening, with $655,000 of it going to the purchase of a gunshot detection system.
Police Chief Chris Davis says that system will help police determine how many weapons are involved in a shooting, how many shots were fired, and where they came from.
Another $88,0000 will go toward officer recruitment and retention, $40,000 on a surveillance trailer, and $188,358 for a shell casing analyzer.
The money is reportedly coming from funds received through the American Rescue Plan.
Davis has also stated that he will be requesting additional funds, namely the remaining $1 million from the ARPA funds designated for crime prevention.
