As the Omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus continues to spread, many organizations are continuing to reevaluate their health and safety protocols.
The Manitowoc Public School District is also doing that. In fact, Superintendent Mark Holzman said it’s something they look at every week.
“We get feedback from our District nurses, the County Health Department, and statewide as we continue to look at our mitigation strategies,” Holzman explained. “Right now, we continue to have a mask mandate for all of our students and staff while indoors.”
These strategies appear to be working, as Holzman said they haven’t seen any significant increases in COVID cases, but they do still have some challenges.
“One of the challenges that we are seeing in addition to our students is making we have enough staff that is healthy,” Holzman said. “Masks do help lots of things, including flu and colds, but right now our goal, as we communicated to our families, is to end the mask mandate at the beginning of the second semester, which is January 19th.”
Holzman said they will continue to monitor the situation and will keep families updated on any changes to that plan.
