Almost two weeks after nearly half of their members were killed at the Waukesha Christmas Parade, southeastern Wisconsin’s “Dancing Grannies” have made a comeback.
Dozens of residents in Franklin attended that community’s holiday parade Saturday – in many cases, just to cheer for the Grannies.
81-year-old Wilhelm Hospel, 79-year-old Ginny Sorenson, 71-year-old Lee Owen, and 52-year-old Tamara Durand were killed last month when an S-U-V driver powered through the crowd, injuring more than 60 people.
Saturday in Franklin was the group’s first parade appearance since the incident. Members said they felt they needed to do it for the ones they lost.
The group says it is actively trying to recruit more members and it plans to dance again next spring.
