It’s official, the 2022 Executive Budget for the City of Manitowoc has been passed.
We spoke with Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels, who said the Council did not make any changes to his proposal Monday night, and signed it into law on Tuesday.
“This is the 13th consecutive year we will lower the City’s debt,” the Mayor said. “We have over $3.7 million in road infrastructure improvements, including the largest road projects which will be Kellner Street from Fleetwood to Menasha, and South 7th Street.”
As far as other highlights of the budget, Nickels said, “We will have an asphalt repair of Washington Street, just like we did this year, this time from south 21st to south 25th. There’s $650,000 for parks improvement and $3.5 million in TIF funding to complete most of phase one of the River Point District, including kayak launches, boat docks, and public river walks.”
Some additions were made that will affect city personnel.
Namely, the addition of three streets laborer positions, one laborer position for the parks division, an HR manager, an engineer, and a Detective in the Manitowoc Police Department, who will have a focus on internet crimes against children and human trafficking.
Pay raises for all city personnel was approved as well.
Nickels thanked the Council for the approval of the budget, and all the work they put into it.
