Tyler Kolek stole the ball, then converted a layup in the closing seconds to give Marquette a 67-66 upset win over number-10 Illinois Monday.
The Golden Eagles forced 26 turnovers while winning their third game in three starts.
The Illini were playing without preseason All-America center Kofi Cockburn who is serving a three-game suspension for selling apparel and memorabilia before the new name, image, and likeness rules went into effect.
The visitors were an eight-point favorite and held a 12-point lead midway through the second half.
Darryl Morsell led coach Shaka Smart’s team with 21 points. Justin Lewis added 17 and Kolek had a dozen.
Marquette’s next game is in the Charleston Classic Thursday when it meets Ole Miss.
