Students at O.H. Schultz Elementary School in Mishicot honored America by singing our National Anthem at yesterday’s Veterans Day Celebration.
Roger Booth teaches third grade and is the O.H. Schultz Veterans Day Committee Chairman.
He stressed the importance of the day, especially for the younger generation.
“I think they need to understand that there have been many sacrifices made throughout the years,” Booth told Seehafer News. “People serving our country and they need to realize the Importance of that and carry that forward that in their own lives. I have a very deep appreciation for what they have all done and what they’ve done and been able to accomplish. I thank God every day that I can be here and be here just to help them out.”
Al Kliment, a 4th-grade teacher at the school, was happy to see the good turnout.
“This is very, very powerful and each year we put this on all of these students are able to look back at their past and history,” he said. “Some of them have great grandparents, grandparents, parents, mothers, and fathers, brothers and sisters who have taken part in these wars over the years. It means so much, and it really brings it home to the students.”
Children not only honored local veterans, current soldiers, and their families with song, there were video tributes, essays read, a flag folding ceremony, and artifact tributes.
Also, The Mishicot School District and community have been collecting money to donate to the Old Glory Flight that reaches out to veterans and sends them to Washington D.C. to visit their respective war memorials.
