Senior outside hitter Mary Satori is the latest in an impressive line of Manitowoc Lincoln Volleyball standouts to sign a National Letter of Intent to compete at the college level.
With her Ships teammates and coaches looking on in the school library late yesterday (November 10th) afternoon, Satori signed on the dotted line with the NCAA Division-2 Minnesota-Duluth University Bulldogs.
“It was really great to do this after a great season,” Satori told Seehafer News. “It’s just a moment where I can look back at all the hard work I put in the past four years, and all the help and support I have gotten from my friends and family.”
The Ships won their 2nd consecutive FRCC title this Fall were Regional winners and fell short of a return trip to State when they fell to eventual champion Oconomowoc in the Sectional finals.
Mary decided early on that she wanted to earn an athletic scholarship.
“I actually thought it would be really cool to play Division 1 or Division 2 volleyball. I even have it written down in my journal from 7th grade,” she said. “Freshman year is when I realized I had to start doing work, and really dial in to become an elite player who can play at the next level.”
Satori was asked why she chose to attend UM-D?
“The Duluth Coaching staff is very passionate about having a very family-like atmosphere,” Satori explained. “[They] really made it feel like a place I would be welcomed in right away.”
Mary also had interest from division-1 programs Indiana, Valparaiso, and UNLV, but because of the Covid-19 pandemic was unable to have campus visits and that was important to her.
Coach Mary Beth Dixon, who just completed her 21st season at Lincoln, spoke of Mary’s leadership.
“She leads by example, and she is not afraid to speak her mind, and usually does so in a very mature way,” Dixon explained. “She has some very strong beliefs, and she wants to share those. I think that’s what’s going to help her be very successful in the future.”
The daughter of Bob and Teresa Satori said she plans on majoring in either Education or Business, as well as a minor in coaching.
And, with the northern climes of Duluth, Mary looks forward to hiking and wants to learn how to ski.
