A tug of war is developing between the Wisconsin Senate and the city of Madison.
Senators have ordered Madison to turn over all records from last November’s presidential election.
Republican leaders say they are issuing a subpoena because the city has failed to comply.
Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway says it’s just a brief walk to the clerk’s office where the records are located.
Lawmakers want to remove them for a review by the Legislative Audit Bureau.
State Senator Chris Kapenga says the subpoena shows lawmakers aren’t playing games and he adds, “there will be consequences if they don’t comply.”
