An 85-year-old Appleton man is dead after he was hit by a semi while riding his bike.
Fox Valley Metro Police Officers were called to the intersection of East North Avenue and Freedom Road in Little Chute at around 10:45 AM on Monday to investigate the incident.
They found the elderly bike rider, identified as James Van Asten, suffering from life-threatening injuries, and aided him at the scene.
Van Asten was taken Theda Care Regional Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Details of the crash have not yet been released, and it is not clear if the driver of the semi is facing any charges.
The intersection was closed for several hours as crews completed their crash reconstruction.
