A 65-year-old Plover man is returning home tomorrow from his 1,600-mile bike ride to promote kidney disease, living donor awareness, and post-donation functionality tomorrow, and will be stopping in the Manitowoc/Sheboygan area.
Mark Scotch actually attempted to donate his kidney to a man he met early last year, who needed a replacement.
That man was a former racehorse jockey, and to combat the pain from injuries sustained, used ibuprofen for an extended period of time, which damaged his kidneys.
Despite only knowing the man for a short time, Stoch wanted to donate his organ to the man but was not a direct match.
So instead, he donated it to someone else on the transplant list.
That New York man is now recovering from a successful surgery and should return to work soon.
To raise awareness for others in need of kidneys, Scotch began cycling long distances, completing a 1,500-mile ride earlier this year.
It is not clear at this time when he will be in Manitowoc and Sheboygan.
