The Milwaukee Common Council has adopted a new policy banning city contractors from carrying firearms. The Tuesday vote was unanimous. It comes after almost two weeks of wide-ranging discussion about contractors photographed while carrying guns — or, in one case, displaying a K-K-K sticker on a lunch cooler. Council members are taking it a step further, voting to conduct a study to find out if any out-sourced jobs could be done cheaper by handling them in-house. The company involved recently, American Sewer, has been paid 50-million dollars for its work for the city over the last five years.
