A 30-year-old Oconto County man will be sentenced in November after entering a no-contest plea Tuesday to a county of homicide by negligent handling of a dangerous weapon.
Christopher Halase was reportedly cleaning his gun last August when it discharged, hitting his sister in the neck and killing her.
As part of a plea deal, prosecutors dropped charges of second-degree reckless homicide and operating a firearm while under the influence of a controlled substance.
Witnesses told investigators Halase had returned to the home in the town of Doty after shooting his guns.
That’s when the accident happened.
