
Ascension St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton was evacuated for more than two hours Thursday after the accidental release of chemical gas.
Thirteen patients were transferred to other hospitals and some hospital staff members with limited exposure were treated for minor symptoms and released.
The incident happened at about 9:00 a-m near the hospital’s emergency department.
The Appleton Fire Department arrived within 10 minutes and the evacuation was lifted at about 11:15 a-m after the air quality had been assessed.
Normal hospital operations were resumed and no serious health problems were reported.
