“I want to say thank you to Manitowoc City, County, and everyone across America. We did it!”
That was the sentiment of the Chairman of the Manitowoc County Veteran’s Council Tom Hoffman as they celebrated the surpassing of the $200,000 fundraising goal for the Eternal Flame.
The Flame, which is located next to the Veteran Memorial on North 18th Street, runs off of natural gas and requires payments to keep it lit.
Hoffman told Seehafer News and those in attendance that with them now surpassing their goal, that flame will remain lit forever.
The Council is still collecting money, however, as there is more to the upkeep of the flame than paying for gas.
“We still have to have a working capital besides that. $200,000 is going to be invested, but we gotta have something to work with,” he explained. “Then, as we go on with this, hopefully, if we make good on this, we can help out veteran’s organizations.”
Hoffman explained that there are some local and area organizations for veterans that are struggling financially. He and the Veteran’s Council would love to help keep those organizations afloat, so they can help those who helped keep America the land of the free and the home of the brave.
