The Green Bay Packers say they aren’t expecting to have quarterback Jordan Love available to play in Saturday’s preseason game against the Jets.
Love is recovering from a right shoulder injury.
Head coach Matt LaFleur told reporters Thursday he doesn’t want to rule Love out, but he said “it’s probably unlikely” he will take the field.
Love hasn’t practiced all week.
If he doesn’t play, the Packers would go with third-string quarterback Kurt Benkert. He played the entire second half last weekend against the Texans.
The Packers and New York Jets have conducted joint practices the last two days.
Meanwhile, the Packers have canceled a pep rally that was going to be held in New Orleans the day before the 2021 N-F-L season opener.
The decision was announced Thursday, citing the “continued surge in COVID cases and hospitalizations in Louisiana.”
Packers Everywhere Pep Rally events are still scheduled before games in San Francisco and Kansas City.
The team says it will monitor the situation as each rally approaches and it promises to comply with any local government regulations or rules for the venues where the rallies would be held.
