A Sun Prairie lawsuit filed in April over a middle school assignment has been moved to federal court.
Families of students at Patrick Marsh Middle School sued when teachers asked sixth-grade students how they would punish a slave under Mesopotamian law.
The assignment was handed out in February on the first day of Black History Month.
The lawsuit alleges pupil discrimination, intentional infliction of emotional distress, violation of civil rights, deprivation of rights, violation of the First Amendment, and emotional anguish.
The attorney for the families says Sun Prairie schools need to take stronger action to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
The three teachers involved have resigned.
