A drug company will make the nasal spray version of Narcan available for free at 10 campuses in the University of Wisconsin System. Narcan is used to reverse an opioid overdose. U-W System President Ray Cross says he hopes the life-saving drug is never needed. Cross says only two people have overdosed from heroin on the U-W campuses in the last decade — one student and a visitor. Initially, the Narcan will be carried by security officers, but eventually it may be entrusted to student residence hall advisors.
