Eastern Wisconsin’s representative in Congress has issued a statement regarding the situation in Afghanistan.
6th District Congressman Glen Grothman, who is the Ranking Member of the House Oversight Committee Subcommittee on National Security, has sat in on several hearings regarding Afghanistan over the past year and spoke with several members of the military directly.
After learning everything he has, Grothman said, “It does not surprise me that despite 20 years of American intervention, the Afghan government has not been able to hold off the onslaught of the Taliban.”
Despite being told that the current government is popular and that they would be able to hang on for three or four years, Grothman said what they were told was “woefully incorrect”.
As for the interpreters, the Glenbeulah Republican stated, “I hope they are not forgotten, as we owe it to these interpreters to protect them from the retaliation the Taliban is waiting to serve.”
