The Sauk County district attorney has decided not to file charges against the 10-year-old boy who shot his 14-year-old brother to death. Sheriff Chip Meister calls the incident a “tragic event,” not a crime. Three brothers ages 10, 12 and 14 were playing “cops and robbers” with what they thought were unloaded rifles. The magazine had been removed from the rifle the younger boy was holding, but he didn’t realize there was a round in the chamber. When he pointed it at his brother and pulled the trigger, the older boy was hit in the chest. The Sauk County coroner pronounced the teenager dead at the scene.
