For the entirety of 2021, a committee in Two Rivers comprised of both City Council members and citizens has been working out the details for the addition of a Splash Pad and Ice Rink in Central Park.
According to City Manager Greg Buckley, progress is being made, namely in the redesign of the west side of the park. In fact, the design was approved by the City Council on Monday (August 2nd).
Buckley told Seehafer News, “Council has now approved contracting with Parkitecture and Planning out of Madison to take the plans from concept plan to bid ready documents with the goal of having a project ready to bid by year-end.”
The next major step for the project is fundraising, details of which will be coming out in the near future.
“Total project is estimated in the range of $1.6 to $1.8 million,” Buckley explained.
That money will help, “completely redo the entire west side of Central Park, replacing the existing bandstand with a new bandstand on the far north end of the park, facing south, to look to make better use, optimal use of all the space.”
As of now, the ice rink, which along with the splash pad will occupy the western portion of the park, will utilize artificial ice. When asked why they won’t use real ice, Buckley explained, “Even in Two Rivers, of late, you can’t rely on good conditions for ice.”
Manitowoc regularly has an ice rink set up in the downtown area, but it usually is only open for small periods of time, as temperatures rise and fall.
