The Department of Natural Resources says the air quality index in northern Wisconsin is “unhealthy for sensitive groups.”
The air quality advisory issued Monday is set to last through noon today (August 3rd).
The people who could be harmed include children, the elderly, individuals with health risks like respiratory and cardiac problems, and anybody who exercises strenuously outside for an extended period of time.
D-N-R officials say fine particles from the smoke caused by the Canadian wildfires are polluting the air.
The advisory covers 39 counties, namely Ashland, Barron, Bayfield, Brown, Buffalo, Burnett, Chippewa, Clark, Door, Douglas, Dunn, Eau Claire, Florence, Forest, Iron, Jackson, Kewaunee, Langlade, Lincoln, Marathon, Marinette, Menominee, Oconto, Oneida, Outagamie, Pepin, Pierce, Polk, Portage, Price, Rusk, Sawyer, Shawano, St. Croix, Taylor, Trempealeau, Vilas, Washburn, Waupaca and Wood counties.
