Woodland Dunes Nature Center on the northwest edge of Two Rivers has been a busy place lately, and today they are holding an open house for their new building.
Executive Director Jim Knickelbine explained to Seehafer News, “We increasingly had multiple groups that wanted to use the Nature Center. We do school programs, so we often have children here. We also have community groups that like to come out and either meet here or use the trails, so we needed some additional space.”
The large expansion of the center’s original Marsh House incorporates numerous efforts to be “friendly” to the surrounding area:
He said, “We incorporated a number of green features like geothermal heating and cooling, permeable parking areas, an electric vehicle charging station, bird-safe glass, things like that so that we minimize our impact on the environment.”
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held yesterday afternoon, and the public is invited to an open house today.
The entire project was funded by donations from local residents and organizations.
There are no fees to enter the Nature Center or to use the trails at Woodland Dunes.
