Six Wisconsin communities, including Chilton, Green Bay, and Appleton are among 244 across the country that will receive 2021 Community Challenge grants totaling more than $3.2 million this year.
In Chilton, the Public Library will receive $18,911 for their StoryWalk program. StoryWalk is described as an educational activity through which the pages of a children’s book are posted along a popular walking route.
The Farmory in Green Bay will receive a $15,000 grant that will go toward the installation of an indoor aquaponics system that will allow for the growth and harvesting of fresh food all year long.
Meanwhile in Appleton, the Creative Downtown Appleton, Inc. will receive a $20,836 grant that will help the organization create a new parklet equipped with solar lights, art, a bike rack, and a hand sanitizer station will provide accessible public seating on College Avenue.
AARP Wisconsin will distribute nearly $88,000 to those three cities as well as La Crosse, Madison, and Ashland.
