A change to a major Highway between Brown and Outagamie Counties has been proposed by the Department of Transportation.
The DOT held a listening session last night on the proposal, which calls for the expansion of I-41 from Wisconsin 96 in Appleton to County Road F in De Pere due to the number of crashes on that stretch of roadway.
In fact, 1,640 crashes occurred in that area between 2015 and 2019, which is nearly one per day and 50% higher than the statewide average.
The project is expected to cost around $1.25 billion but would result in six lanes of traffic between the cities and several roundabouts.
Two more listening sessions have been scheduled, the first of which will take place at Hemlock Creek Elementary School in De Pere from 5:00 to 8:00 this evening (July 28th).
Then tomorrow, also from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, another hearing is scheduled to take place in the D.D. Bordini Center at Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton.
