Last week, Eastern Wisconsin was pounded by a massive downpouring of rain, resulting in many road closures, and several businesses being flooded.
Notably, the Waterfront Wine Bar in Manitowoc was underwater for a while, and the Trails End Trailer Park on the north side of the City was submerged in nearly a foot of water.
In Two Rivers, however, it was not as big of a problem according to City Manager Greg Buckley.
“There was one sewer blockage that happened during the event,” he explained. “We think the heavy flows dislodged some solids that were built up in the pipe, and I’m sure…there was some basement flooding in some homes, but as far as City infrastructure, we didn’t incur any damage.”

Even though there are separate storm and sanitary sewers in the city, Buckley said the overflow into the Wastewater Treatment Plant caused a huge influx in gallons per minute.
In fact, Buckley said, “The flow into our Wastewater Plant went from about 2,500 gallons per minute to about 8,000 gallons per minute, or 2.5 million gallons to about 11 million gallons on a daily rate.”
Buckley said they did have to discharge 5,200 gallons of untreated sewage into Lake Michigan, but that “pales in comparison to all the stuff that came washing down the river into the lake.”
