The Manitowoc County SWAT team was called into action yesterday afternoon after a man threatened to kill his family.
.The incident occurred in the area of South 14th and Division Streets at around 2:30 PM, with witnesses claiming the 43-year-old suspect was under the influence of drugs and had stabbed multiple items in the home.
The Manitowoc Police Department was first on the scene, and reported that the man was acting erratic, and talking to himself, so the SWAT team was called into action.
Officers attempted to negotiate with the man for several hours, but he refused and even appeared to take more drugs. SWAT then took action, using chemical agents to take the suspect into custody.
No injuries were reported, and the man was arrested on charges related to domestic violence, drug possession, and making threats to law enforcement.
Captain Jeremy Kronforst of the Manitowoc Police Department thanked the SWAT team for their assistance, along with the Sheriff’s Office, and the Manitowoc Fire and Rescue Department for “assisting on the call and helping to handle other calls in the City of Manitowoc during this difficult incident.”
