Speeding is one of the most received complaints from the public according to Manitowoc Police Chief Nick Reimer.
While on WOMT’S Be My Guest program on Thursday, Reimer explained that they do take all of the complaints seriously, but they are both understaffed, and covering a lot of ground.
“We have 200 miles of road to try to keep track of, with minimal officers out there trying to do that,” he explained. “We like to get that information from the citizens saying ‘They are speeding here.’, or ‘They are speeding there.’, so we can kind of direct our officers to the areas most in need of enforcement.”
Another aspect to the problem is school zones. While the school year may be over in the traditional sense, there is summer school going on now, namely at Jackson Elementary. He is reminding everyone to look out for the children in that area because “the kids aren’t always looking out for you.”
Reimer said that fixing the speeding problem is a work in progress and that we need to try to change those habits.
