Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve says the 35-year-old man shot to death by officers last Thursday was wanted in Virginia. Jesse Cole Shuping was a convicted felon who may have been trying to collect a debt from a person staying at the Budget Inn motel in Marinette. Three hours after the motel incident, where he reportedly showed a gun, he was tracked to a house in the Town of Peshtigo. There was a police chase, he wrecked his car and he was shot when he got out holding the gun. It hasn’t been determined who fired the fatal shot. Shuping was identified Friday.
