Cambia-based Didion Mills will go to an Independent Occupational Safety Review Committee to appeal one-point-eight-million dollars in federal fines assessed for an explosion which killed five people. The incident last May also injured 12 others, including a 21-year-old worker who suffered a double-leg amputation. Investigators say an accumulation of grain dust likely caused the blast. OSHA (OH shuh) ruled Didion failed to correct the leakage and accumulation of combustible grain dust and also failed to properly maintain equipment to control ignition sources.
