A man attempted to steal a TV from the Meijer store in Manitowoc but was caught by police.
Officers were dispatched to the store, located at 1818 South Rapids Road, where a worker said that a man had tried to take a television, but fled before police arrived. An officer located the vehicle a short distance away and pulled it over.
Both the female driver and male passenger refused to cooperate with authorities and would not supply any identification claiming they had done nothing illegal. Both individuals were detained as the officers conducted an investigation.
The Loss Prevention employee at Meijer supplied video surveillance which showed the suspect pushing a cart with the TV and a mounting stand to the self-checkout but failing to ring it up. He was stopped at the door and confronted about the attempted theft, and several previous attempts at the same store over the past month.
At that point, the man fled with the woman. Both suspects were charged with three counts of Misdemeanor Retail Theft, with the man also being hit with three counts of Felony Bail Jumping.
