Over the past couple of weeks, work has been done on the Mariners Trail in Manitowoc, widening it by about two feet between the Manitowoc/Two Rivers YMCA and Waldo Boulevard. Holy Family Memorial will be making use of the freshly renovated trail, by hosting a marathon.
Dave Nickels is the race coordinator, and he told Seehafer News that they are very excited to bring the Holy Family Memorial Maritime Marathon back after taking last year off. “We were not able to do it last year due to some restrictions, but we worked around that this year.” he explained. “With some slight modifications, we are going to put on a great event, not only for our runners, but for our community.”
As for what the funds raised will go toward, Nickels explained that HFM donates every penny earned. In the past, they have given all of the funds raised to a single organization but decided to change that up last year. “Our volunteer groups are all a part of non-profit organizations,” Nickels said. “What we did was we agreed to give a donation all of their non-profit groups. We didn’t have the event, so they all agreed to carry that over to this year.”
The marathon will take place on June 13th and will start at 7:00 AM. Roughly 600 people have already signed up to participate, however, you have until Monday, May 31st to sign up.
You can register for the marathon or sign up as a volunteer by going to MaritimeMarathon.org.
