“We saw some great things today but we were also sloppy.” That was the synopsis of the first preseason game for the newly created Sheboygan County SaberCats football team as reported by Head Coach TJ Schouten.
The SaberCats were defeated by the Marshfield Bandits 20-14 on Saturday (April 24th), despite a comeback attempt late in the game.
The SaberCats went down early, thanks to an 85-yard punt return by Marshfield, but TE Ason Anderson would record the first ever points for the Sheboygan County team, with a 54-yard touchdown reception.
The Bandits added scores at the end of the first half and the beginning of the third giving them a 20-6 lead entering the final stanza.
QB Brady Hanson would find wide-out Steve Strong for a score with less than two minutes on the clock, but the SaberCats couldn’t recover an onside kick, sealing their defeat.
The SaberCats will take the next two weeks off as they prepare for their first regular-season game against the Chicago Chaos on May 15th. Kick-off in Chicago is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
