While Domestic Violence Awareness Month may be over, a local college is continuing its fight to eliminate these crimes from its campus.
Lakeland University has shared that it has received a three-year grant of $400,000 from the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) as part of its Reduce Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking on Campus Program.
These federal dollars will be used to expand and strengthen its education and response to any sexual assault, dating/domestic violence, and stalking incidents.
This includes expanding security camera coverage, developing a Community Coordinated Response Team, creating a zero-tolerance policy for these crimes, and much more.
On how this grant will be felt on campus, Lakeland President Beth Borgen said, “At its core, this grant is about people. It provides Lakeland with the resources to strengthen relationships, expand support systems, and continue to offer a campus culture where students know they are valued, cared for, and never alone when facing difficult situations.”
