The Manitowoc Two Rivers YMCA and InCourage are teaming up to help members with a new initiative.
Safe Harbor provides Y memberships to those served by Manitowoc County’s domestic violence shelter.
The partnership is supported through a $2,000 grant from Walmart’s Spark for Good Local Grant program.
Through Safe Harbor, participating families can enjoy the YMCA’s swimming pools, wellness facilities, group exercise classes, and recreational opportunities.
Local YMCA CEO Julie Grossman says for families experiencing a crisis, something as simple as taking the kids swimming or spending an afternoon together at the Y can mean so much.
She adds, “Everyone deserves a safe place to land. We’re incredibly grateful to Walmart for investing in our community through its Spark Good program and helping us extend the Y’s welcoming environment to families who need it most.”
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and a time to recognize the impact of domestic violence and the importance of community partnerships in supporting survivors and families.
