For the past several months, motorists driving along I-43 in Sheboygan County have had to plan for a little extra time as the DOT completely reconstructed the major thoroughfare.
The project began on March 2nd, and resulted in half of the highway being closed for stretches of time, and the on- and off-ramps at various locations being closed as well.
But, the DOT’s Sheboygan County Project Manager Tim Verhagen says the project is wrapping up.
“The project’s set to be complete around November 6th,” he revealed. “We’re just finishing it up. We have a few ramp closures to get through, to address pavement marketing, guardrail, things like that.”
Verhagen also noted that the project is right around where they expected cost-wise.
“We did have a little additional work at the southbound bridge at the I-43 and 23 interchange,” he admitted. “But with that, we were able to make a needed repair while we had traffic control up.”
Verhagen said, overall, he is very happy with how the project came along.
He praised the “experienced construction staff out there taking care of a lot of issues, working with local officials and our EMS community, and keeping things moving.”
