As the clocks turn back this weekend, Wisconsin Emergency Management (WEM) is reminding residents to keep their homes safe.
This is the time of year to test all alarms in your home, including smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and to replace the batteries if needed.
Both working devices can mean the difference between life and death, as they can alert you to danger, whether it’s smoke from a fire or the harmful invisible gas leaks in the furnace.
As heating systems kick into full gear, it’s important to take precautions to prevent home fires.
That means having a professional check your furnace. WEM Administrator Greg Engle says, “Turning back the clocks is easy, but being prepared takes a little bit of planning.”
