Families in the Manitowoc Public School District were caught off guard this morning when the school bus didn’t arrive.
A listener reached out to SeehaferNews.com and claimed that “two school bus routes were canceled without notification to families.”
The listener, who did not provide their name, added, “School transportation is not a convenience. Families depend on it to get their kids to school safely when they don’t have transportation or to maintain their employment. When transportation fails without communication, there are significant safety risks.”
MPSD Superintendent Lee Thennes confirmed that there was “at least one bus that did not run,” but did not know of any additional canceled routes.
Regarding the communication failure, Thennes explained, “The district asks for timely notice on bus routes that are cancelled. The district received notice of the bus route cancellation after the school day started.”
We have reached out to Brandt Bussing, the company responsible for transporting children in the MPSD to and from school, for comment.
