The Manitowoc Public School District has set its property tax levy for the 2026-2027 school year.
The Board of Education increased the levy by 6.14% from last year to $31,425,658, or $6.58 per $1,000 of equalized property value.
Superintendent Lee Thennes tells SeehaferNews.com that this levy consists of two components.
$739,467 goes toward meeting debt obligations associated with the voter-approved 2025 capital referendum, while the remaining over $30,686,191 is to support general district operations, including staffing, educational programming, student services, and day-to-day operations.
He also noted that the district received approximately $102,000 less than anticipated in state equalization aid, and the district’s state aid deduction associated with voucher programs increased from $6,015,748 last year to $7,223,770 this year.
He closed, saying, “The district continuously evaluates its operations, facilities, and resource allocation to ensure that taxpayer dollars are used effectively. For the 2026–27 school year, the district plans to use $4.75 million less than the amount allowed by the current operational referendum.”
