Sheboygan may be getting a new indoor ice arena.
At yesterday’s City Plan Commission meeting, the Sheboygan Blueline Association submitted a conditional use permit application to construct and operate a new indoor ice arena on Gateway Drive.
The proposed facility would be approximately 66,000 square feet on undeveloped land, featuring two sheets of ice, one of which will stay in year-round while the other will be used as multi-use space in the summer.
In the application, the Sheboygan Blueline Association explains, “This new facility will allow for expansion of our programs but also increased tournaments and events to further highlight the Sheboygan area for all that travel to our community.”
They also added that the new arena would be used by at least 300 local families in youth or adult hockey as well as local figure skaters as well.
The location for the complex, near Nemak, was chosen because the land has been donated for the potential project.
However, the project will not be able to move forward until it receives full approval from the Sheboygan Common Council.
