One of Wisconsin’s Senators in Washington is leading a bipartisan effort to expand benefit access for veterans with a rare muscular disease.
Sen. Tammy Baldwin was joined by fellow Democrats Sarah Elfreth of Maryland and Mike Thompson of California, and Florida Republican Gus Bilirakis in writing a letter to VA Secretary Doug Collins urging his organization to recognize Inclusion Body Myositis (IBM) as a presumptive service-connected condition.
IBM is a muscle disease similar to Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) in its profile as a rare, progressive, incurable neuromuscular disease that occurs in veterans at higher rates than in the civilian population.
ALS is already recognized as a presumptive service-connected condition, so the group believes IBM should be as well.
