Wisconsin child welfare officials are reaching out to callers after a hardware replacement temporarily knocked out Milwaukee County’s child abuse hotline.
The Department of Children and Families says a router swap last week disabled the 220-SAFE phone and fax lines, leaving two dozen separate numbers unable to get through.
The outage was fixed early the following morning, and workers are now contacting affected callers to ensure reports are safely documented.
State policy requires child abuse hotlines to remain accessible around the clock to take reports.
