The Lincoln Park Zoo is looking to acquire another animal.
In a memo from the Common Council meeting agenda, zoo staff were looking to get approval from the city to explore opportunities to fill the now vacant bear exhibit.
In May last year, a Black Bear named Honey passed away, leaving the exhibit empty.
The zoo’s goal is to get another black bear, but they are open to another animal that would support their mission.
The Common Council approved the memo along with an updated animal acquisition and disposition policy.
The new policy requires a report with clear reasoning and justification for trying to get a new animal at the zoo.
It also clarifies language regarding capturing animals from the wild, noting that only wild-born animals obtained would come from the Wisconsin DNR or wildlife rehabilitators.
