The defending two-time state volleyball champion Manitowoc Lutheran Lancers check the first box on their way to what they hope is a three-peat.
The Lancers rolled by the Chilton Tigers 25-13, 25-17 and 25-10 in a WIAA Division Three regional semifinal at Lancer Circle Thursday night (October 22nd).
Head Coach Lacey Behnke tells seehafernews.com that her team played very well.
“We went to watch Chilton to watch them play Kiel Tuesday night as they were a team that we hadn’t played in a few years,” she explained. “We implemented the game plan on Wednesday, and I thought the kids executed the game plan to near perfection. “
Behnke refers to Chilton’s three-set victory over Kiel in an opening round regional match played Tuesday night in Chilton.
The Lancers Head Coach says part of that plan was to speed up the Tigers and limit rallies to as few hits as possible.
“When a team is struggling and if you can get back to the service line quickly, it doesn’t give them much time to think about what just happened,” she noted. “We were ready to serve within a few seconds, and that really played into our hands tonight.”
The Lancers improve to 28 and 11 on the year while Chilton finishes their season with a record of 18-17.
They’ll host University School of Milwaukee for a regional title tomorrow night after they defeated New Holstein in three sets Thursday night.
“Everyone is back to zero and zero,” Coach Behnke said. “Those who have advanced want to keep playing and not go home. Postseason is when everybody steps up their game and plays their very best, which is one of the great things about volleyball.”
Meanwhile, Manitowoc Lincoln cruised by Homesead 25-18, 25-13, 25-18, and Roncalli continued its strong season with a straight-set win over Reedsville 25-21, 25-19, 25-23.
The Ships will face Cedarburg on the road tomorrow with a Regional Championship on the line, while Roncalli is on the road for Sheboygan Christian.
All matches are scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
