The Wisconsin DATCP is reminding people planning to attend the World Series in Milwaukee to avoid ticket scams.
High demand for playoff games and sold-out events routinely creates opportunities for scammers to pitch fake or counterfeit tickets.
DATCP Secretary Randy Romanski says ticket purchasers should always buy directly from the venue, team website like Brewers.com, or official primary box office.
If residents buy tickets secondhand, use established platforms with built-in buyer guarantees.
The payment method you use to buy baseball tickets also matters.
The DATCP says it always uses a credit card, which offers federal fraud protection and formal dispute mechanisms for unauthorized or fraudulent charges.
If you do get tickets for the World Series, avoid static PDF attachments, scanned printouts, or barcode screenshots.
Official tickets for major sporting events transfer directly through applications like the MLB Ballpark app.
Lastly, Romanski says to avoid deals that seem “too good to be true,” as high-demand, sold-out, or front-row seats offered at drastically below-market prices are almost always fraudulent.
