A Sturgeon Bay man has been sentenced in his child sexual assault case.
69-year-old Joseph Schinkten was previously found guilty due to no contest pleas on two counts of 2nd Degree Sexual Assault of a Child, with a third of the same charge and another of Possession of Child Pornography dismissed but read into the record.
Brown County Judge Donald Zuidmulder ordered Schinkten to spend 15 years in prison followed by 10 years on extended supervision.
Schinkten had reportedly been in contact with a 15-year-old male and had sent him sexually explicit photos.
The victim said that Schinkten sexually assaulted him several times, while Schinkten claimed he and the child had a “mentor” kind of relationship and that the messages were simply fantasy.
Schinkten was also ordered to have no contact with anyone under the age of 18 and to maintain absolute sobriety upon his release.
