The Green Bay Packers defense flexed its muscles against one of the strongest offenses in the NFL.
Green Bay took down the Dallas Cowboys 23-13 at Lambeau Field, highlighted by another multi-interception performance by the secondary.
Evan Williams and Brandon Cisse each snagged a pass from Dallas QB Dak Prescott, who was held to 258 yards, a majority of which was in the 4th quarter.
We asked Evan Williams if the Packers have the best defensive back room in the league.
“I like to think so,” he responded. “We say it every day, ‘Best in the world.’ We do our best to uphold that standard every day. Bring that into everything we do…I feel like that is showing off right now.”
Additionally, the D-line and linebackers held the Cowboys to only 48 rushing yards. D-Lineman Karl Brooks says that was a team effort.
“The offense put up points, and they are rolling,” he said. “It’s hard for teams to run the ball all day. Starting fast…and making your presence felt in the run game and trying to get them to cancel those plays early.”
Offensively, things started pretty strong, with Green Bay going 6 for 6 on third downs in the early going, and ended the game 11 for 18.
There were plenty of struggles, with several key drops in the endzone by Christian Watson and Matthew Golden.
Jordan Love admits that’s tough to see.
“I wanna see us make every play,” he said bluntly. “I wanna make every throw. I want these guys to make every catch. That’s the expectation. “It’s gotta be the next play mindset. You gotta move on, try to fight back and continue to make good plays.”
Wide Receiver Savion Williams made his grand return to the field, and he said making a couple of catches early helped get his legs back under him.
“Putting us in 3rd and manageable and the catch on 3rd down, that was good,” he said with a smile.
Center Sean Rhyan, who was featured at halftime on the jumbotron telling his personal dealings with cancer in his family, admits there is room to improve.
“Speaking from a personal point of view, we won. I’m never going to apologize for winning, but we definitely gotta fix a couple things,” he admitted. “We got the win, but it was definitely a dirty win.”
The Packers are now 4-2, and will take that record into the Motor City next Sunday when they face the Detroit Lions.
